Care Guide:
Thank you for choosing this unique pet leather carving pendant. It is more than just an accessory—it carries the deep bond between you and your beloved pet. Every cut and engraving holds a cherished memory. To ensure this precious keepsake remains with you for years to come, please take a few minutes to read the following care instructions.
I. Core Care Principles
* Keep away from extreme environments
* Waterproof and moisture-resistant: Leather hardens and discolors when exposed to water. Avoid getting the pendant wet in rain or leaving it in damp conditions for extended periods.
* Avoid direct sunlight: Prolonged exposure to sunlight or strong light can cause leather to fade, become brittle, and age prematurely. Do not place the pendant near car windows, heaters, or other high-temperature areas.
* Maintain stable temperature and humidity: Ideal storage conditions are a temperature of 15°C–25°C and humidity of 50%–65%. Avoid placing the pendant directly under air conditioning vents or in overly dry locations.
* Prevent physical damage
* Avoid scratches: Although the leather surface has a protective layer, avoid storing or rubbing it with keys, sharp metal objects, or other hard items to prevent scratching the engraved design.
* Handle gently: While the pendant is somewhat resilient, avoid bending or pulling it forcefully.
* Keep clean
* Clean hands: Always ensure your hands are clean before handling or wearing the pendant to prevent sweat, hand lotion, or oil from staining the leather over time.
II. Daily Cleaning and Maintenance Steps
* Daily dusting
* Gently wipe the surface of the pendant with a soft, dry cloth (such as microfiber or lens cleaning cloth) to remove dust.
* Deep cleaning
* Step 1: Use a slightly damp soft cloth (well wrung out so it doesn’t drip) to gently wipe stained areas.
* Step 2: Immediately use another dry soft cloth to absorb excess moisture.
* Step 3: Place in a well-ventilated area to dry completely.
* Prohibition: Never use alcohol, soap, laundry detergent, or any chemical solvents on leather carvings, as they will permanently damage the leather’s color and texture.
* Conditioning and oiling
* Timing: Only consider this when you notice the leather becoming dry (e.g., after being stored in a very dry environment for six months or a year).
* Choose conditioner: Use only care oils or conditioners specifically designed for vegetable-tanned or premium leathers (such as mink oil).
* Method: Apply a very small amount of conditioner onto a soft cloth, rub thoroughly between palms until evenly distributed, then quickly and gently apply in circular motions across the leather surface. Let sit for 15–20 minutes, then wipe off excess oil with a clean, soft cloth. Remember: less is more—apply in multiple light layers!
III. Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why has my leather carving pendant darkened? Is this normal?
A: Yes, it’s completely normal! This is a characteristic of high-quality leather—especially vegetable-tanned leather—known as “color development” or “patina.” Over time, the leather gradually deepens in tone and becomes richer and warmer-looking, developing a unique character that reflects its journey. This is part of what makes leather carvings so special.
Q: Will the colored parts of the carved design fade?
A: Rest assured, the colors remain highly stable under normal wear and rarely fade. We use a combination of “penetrating dyeing” and “professional protective coating.” After carving, we apply specialized leather dyes that penetrate into the leather fibers rather than merely sitting on the surface. Once dyed, we apply a dedicated leather color-fixing protector. This protective layer effectively locks in color while providing resistance against friction, stains, and minor water exposure.
Q: Can I spray perfume or disinfectant on it?
A: Absolutely not! Alcohol and chemicals can severely damage the leather surface, causing fading, hardening, or even cracking.
